Thailand Journal Entry #5

I think I've got it - there's a sign that says it costs 1,000 baht to name one of the new puppies. I'm going to name one of them Aleta, so that there will be a happy, free dog living among elephants in Northern Thailand named Aleta. Dogs are allowed on the tables here.

Jessica is interesting. She has purple hair and looks like Loki from "The Avengers." She's very forward with the elephants and was the only one bathing 3 of them this afternoon while I was de-ticking. I feel like she and I are here for similar reasons.

I need to stop naming things. OR NOT.
I named the orange tabby that keeps sneaking into the Canadians' room "Hal." His undeterred persistence just struck me as Hal-ish.
The cat on my suitcase and all of its lookalikes are, as I said before, Sandy. And the shepherd mix that likes to hang around on our porch and pester Hal is now "Rocco." I'm sure they all have real names. I'm also sure that I probably can't pronounce those names. All of the names here are significant - they mean things like "color of the sky" or "floating lotus" and so far I've got Sandy, Hal, and Rocco under my belt.

I keep saying "Mah" to Rocco because I'm so proud of myself for knowing it. There are French people here but I'm too afraid to talk to them. Je regrette.
